Changing Hearts & Community Through Christ

Meet Our Pastors

John Symonds, Lead Pastor

Pastor John is in his 32nd year of pastoral ministry - 18 of those were spent here in Yarmouth.  He pastored here 1983-2001.  On August 1, 2013, he returned here to serve as interim pastor, a term which could last up to two years.  Pastor John says, "We are excited to be back in Yarmouth.  We love this church, this area, and it's so good to be back near the ocean."

Pastor John was a school teacher for a dozen years before becoming a pastor.  He also taught at Kingswood University (formerly Bethany Bible College) for 6 years (2001-2007).

He has been married to Willo Ann for 45 years and they have 3 adult children: Brock, a pastor in Shediac, New Brunswick; Nicki, a high school teacher in Halifax; and Kate, a wife and mom in Edmonton, Alberta.

Jason Kitchen, Youth Pastor
The opportunity for Jason to return to his home church and work with the students of Yarmouth has him praising the Lord for the chance to impact his community for Christ. This is Jason’s first pastoral ministry position and he is extremely excited for how God has worked and is working in the youth ministry. Three years ago, he listened to God and started on a journey of following Him into a life of missions. This journey has taken him and his family around the Maritimes and Ontario as they have faithfully and obediently served the Lord. He has a passion for outreach and can talk to anyone. He tells everyone that it doesn’t matter where you are, there are opportunities to serve the Lord. We just need to find what we are passionate about and go.
Along with being Pastor of Student Ministries, he is a missionary with Serving In Missions (SIM) and is preparing for service in Bolivia for 3 years as of September 2014. He spent 10 years in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Air Defence Artilleryman until medically discharged in 2007. After leaving the Army, Jason worked as a carpenter and has a love of farming and gardening.
Jason has been married to his wonderful and beautiful wife, Elouise for 13 years and they have 7 amazing children. They thank God everyday for Him giving them the blessing of having a mission field right in their home.
